I think what the project most gravely needs is an informational playground for those new to the Open Co-op. A place where all the information would be offered in an easy to understand way, without the need to strafe through a billion PDF files, which is in some cases very slow and cumbersome. Also, in this sandbox area I think we could have some guidance on the use of the Co-Op tikiwiki infrastructure. It's allright and fine to arrange courses for those who like courses. But most of the people coming to this site are individuals, who would like to contribute to the project at some extent. Without knowing how, it can only get boring in a heartbeat. Most of the growth pace is lost when people don't know what to do with this tool.

Like Vee, I'd like to press that a common ground is needed on how those lesser computer literate people can bring their ideas into use in this project, and how to cultivate it further.

Thanks for reading,

Since the flowing, which was e-mailed by Mamading seems so important and looks like the beginning of a long conversation (which I have been dyding to get to the end of for some time) I have taken the liberty of pasting it to this forum.

You can watch these forums, and do cool things in 'admin forums' (like Forward messages to this forum to this e-mail address, in a format that can be used for sending back to the inbound forum e-mail address)

I have numbered mamadings questions for clarity.
---
Between yesterday's meeting and Oli's proposal, it seems to me that
there is a lack of clarity over the business model/plan for Open. So
I'm going to ask some questions that will hopefully provoke some
thought.

1. What products/services is Open going to provide to partners/members?

2. Will partners/members pay some sort of membership fee/subscription and
if so what products/services will they get as part of the membership
package?

3. How does Open get to the point where it can set up shop and start
bringing in money?

4. What funding applications can Open make? For what, to whom,
when and for how much?

There's probably some related material on the open coop site, but I
can't seem to reach it right now. Can someone get Dinix to look at it,
I can't even ssh into it right now.

Interesting idea from JSRM RE his 3,000,000 businesses, but I am extremely concerned about the proprietary nature of the system and also its potential regarding Open's future plans.
We really need an open system which allows infinite opportunities for the future.
If we are building in the 'ratings' and 'real costs' systems anyway, why not design the database system too? Then we can populate it with specific 'ethical' businesses from Ethical Junction (If Josef's great mail does the trick) and similar resources, making the result a lot more meaningful.
